These travellers met half way between their two homes in a tiny bar in Valencia, Spain in May 2009. Chris, an Australian, and Ashley, from Elora were traveling solo in Europe and had signed on for a city tour with the same hostel company. When Chris walked into the bar, Ashley grabbed the arm of her newfound travel companion, Cara and whispered her need to talk to the stranger who’d just entered. “He is my husband,” she said. Luckily, he felt the same instant attraction and they haven’t been apart since. After moving to Australia, the couple got engaged in October 2009 during a beautiful spa getaway in Daylesford while their song, Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” played. Ashley knew that she wanted to have her wedding in Canada, but planning the event all the way from Australia proved challenging. She relied heavily on the Internet and one trip home over Christmas to book the venue for the reception, The Elora Mill. The couple married in Ashley’s parents’ backyard. A white and green apple colour palate set the tone for a romantic, country chic wedding. Hand painted aboriginal boomerangs from Australia were a unique table décor and keepsake for their guests. Given the newlywed’s shared love of travel, it’s no surprise their honeymoon took them to beautiful Fiji to continue their lifelong adventure.
